Case Study: High-Performance Waterborne Silver Powder Paint Solution
In fields like consumer electronics and home appliances, water-based silver powder coatings are highly favored for their distinctive metallic finish—but the industry has long struggled with challenges such as "poor durability, complex application processes, and high costs." So, how can we strike the right balance between aesthetic appeal and practicality? And how do we choose a cost-effective solution that delivers both?
Guanzhi New Materials has launched three high-performance waterborne silver paint solutions, addressing key industry challenges through in-depth R&D and multi-dimensional application testing.
01/ HPUA-7613 Waterborne Two-Component One-Coat Silver Powder Paint System
HPUA-7613 is an aliphatic, waterborne hydroxyacrylic-modified polyurethane dispersion, formulated with a water-dispersible isocyanate curing agent. It is designed for use in waterborne two-component polyurethane coatings and features a polycarbonate-modified structure with strong crystallinity. This unique formulation not only enhances the alignment of silver flakes but also delivers exceptional durability and resistance properties.

Test data for OS-9016 curing agent

All the test data provided above were obtained after baking and once the coating film had fully dried. However, since some customers may not have sufficient baking time when developing their solutions, we’ve also conducted tests on how the performance of HPUA-7613 changes under different drying times—for your reference.

02/ HPUA-7613 + UV-5270 & UV-5274 Waterborne Two-Component Silver Powder Coating + Waterborne UV Topcoat System
Guanzhi uses waterborne UV resins—specifically UV-5270 and UV-5274—in its silver powder paint composite coatings; both are water-based polyurethane-acrylate dispersions.
UV-5270 boasts exceptional flexibility; UV-5274, with its high cross-link density, offers superior hardness and outstanding durability. These two resins are typically used together to achieve a balanced combination of hardness, toughness, and flexibility.

Performance Comparison

In addition to the performance tests mentioned above, if you want a special finish—such as a matte or high-end metallic texture—a composite coating approach makes it easier to formulate the desired appearance compared to applying a single coat of silver powder paint.
03/ UV-5100 Waterborne UV One-Coat Silver Powder Paint Solution
UV-5100 is a solvent-free, radiation-cured polyurethane acrylate dispersion that exhibits excellent silver-flake alignment properties, making it particularly well-suited for use in water-based plastic silver-flake paints.
